Irina Leitão was born in 1981 in Peniche. She moved to Canada (Montreal) when she was 9 years old, where she had the chance to learn French and English. She was missing Peniche and the sea so much that she visited for 2 months on her summer vacations every year. Despite being far from the sea and waves, she started to enjoy surfing at an early age after hearing her uncle, who is a good surfer, talking about surfing all the time and seeing him and his friends surfing. After finishing her degree in 2004, being tired of the harsh Canadian Winters, she decided that it was the perfect time to return to the place she had always called home. Initially she lived in Lisbon and worked as a software tester but spent every weekend in Peniche! Once again though, visiting Peniche every weekend was not enough for her! In 2010 she moved back permanently and has been a part of the Peniche Surfcamp team since 2011. Irina first started at the camp as a receptionist but recently started to work in our bookings department.
